Grand Rapids ties record low Friday morning

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — After a bitterly cold day Thursday, we told you to expect even colder temperatures early Friday morning — and Mother Nature delivered.

Grand Rapids officially dropped to -13° at 6:53 A.M., tying the record low for February 20th, previously set in 1966.

This comes a day after the mean temperature (high + low divided by 2) in G.R. was only -1°, marking the first time that has happened since February 5, 2007.  In fact, it was only the 30th mean temperature below zero in the last 50 years.

Many areas outside of Grand Rapids were even colder.  From the National Weather Service, here are the overnight lows all over West Michigan:
