KENT COUNTY, Mich. -- The jury has been selected in Shawn Jarrett's rape trial. The Kent County assistant prosecutor said eight woman and six men make up the jury.
Jarrett is accused of attacking an 85-year-old woman in her Grandville home. In June 2014, police said Jarrett
knocked on the woman's back door and asked to use her phone. When he gave it back to her, he reportedly
beat, robbed and raped her.
Opening statements in the rape trial starts tomorrow morning.
Jarrett spent 30 years in prison for killing a neighbor in 1982 when he lived in Pennsylvania.
Authorities said jarrett is the prime suspect in the murder of Yolanda Reyes. She is Jarrett's former co-worker who went missing last spring. Her body was later found at a construction site in Kent County not far from where they worked.
No one has been charged in Reyes murder yet.
