One dead in Muskegon house fire

MUSKEGON, Mich.–One person is dead and another hospitalized after a fire at a home Friday night.

Fire crews were called to the 200 Block of Orchard Ave. just after 10:30 p.m. Flames and heavy smoke were already showing from the two-story residence when they arrived.

Firefighters said a 52-year-old man suffered from smoke inhalation. He was taken to a local hospital by ambulance before being airlifted to Grand Rapids for more advanced care. An 83-year-old woman was found on the second floor of the building–she was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Crews were able to put out the fire and clear the scene by about 1:40 a.m.

A joint fire and police investigation is ongoing. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
