Emergency crews search for missing kayaker

PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich.– Kent County Sheriff’s deputies searched for a missing kayaker on the Rogue River near Belmont Saturday.

Kent County Sheriff’s Department says there were two people kayaking when they ran into ice, and it is believed the victim went in water and under the ice.

Authorities say they haven’t seen any signs of the kayaker for several hours.

Helicopters stopped flying over head in early evening, although authorities are still searching the river at this time.

Kent County Sheriff’s Department is calling their efforts a recovery search at this point. The dive team KCSD, and fire department cut through a lot of ice for several hours where they believed the victim had fallen.

Emergency crews will resume the search Sunday morning.

Authorities have not released the identity or age of the missing person.
