VANBUREN COUNTY, Mich. — A man from Van Buren county has been charged with criminal sexual conduct.
Sheriff’s deputies in Florida arrested 65-year-old Michael Ray Gwilliams from the Bloomingdale area for allegedly sexually assaulting a young girl. Investigators say the incident was reported back in October after the little girl told them Gwilliams sexually assaulted her multiple times over a year and a half period.
Deputies say she was just nine years old at the time of the incident.
As the investigation continued, Gwilliams fled the state and was eventually arrested in Florida earlier this month. He was extradited back to Michigan and was charged with ‘Criminal Sexual Conduct- 1st Degree’ as an Habitual Offender
He is being held on a 5 million dollar bond. If convicted, Gwilliams faces up to life in prison without parole.
