KENT COUNTY, Mich. — The three suspects who police arrested following an armed robbery at Paul Medawar Fine Jewelry were in court Monday.

Charles Fortune, Darnell Brown and Zack Cender are all expected to be charged with felony conspiracy to commit retail fraud.

According to the Kent County Sheriff’s Department, four suspects walked into the jewelry store, located at 4518 Plainfield Ave. NE, where they attempted to break a Rolex Watch display case with hammers. That’s when deputies said an employee pulled out a gun and shot at the suspects.  No one was hit.

Investigators said the driver of a stolen black Dodge Ram, who court records identify as Fortune, picked the four up. The truck was left on 5 Mile Road. Deputies said that’s when the group split up into two other vehicles. That’s when police caught up with them and a brief chase took place down I-96.

With multiple agencies involved one of the vehicles stopped.

Fortune, Brown and Cender were taken into custody.

Law enforcement officials are searching for two other suspects who might be driving a newer model silver Dodge Durango.

Anyone with information should call the Kent County Sheriff’s Department at  616-632-6100.

Fortune, Brown and Cender are expected back in court next month.
