LAWTON, Mich. — Ten dogs and one puppy were seized from a Lawton apartment Monday during an animal cruelty investigation.

Van Buren County deputies were called to a residence in the 500 block of N. Main Street after someone reported that the animals were being neglected.

According to a release, they discovered the dogs in the apartment with no food or water and found a large amount of feces and urine.  A neighbor told investigators that the former tenant vacated the apartment about three weeks ago.

The dogs are currently in the Van Buren County Animal Control Shelter and are in good health.

Deputies are searching for a 56-year-old Lawton woman in connection with the case.  Her name has not been released.
