GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — An area hotel developer Friday announced plans to build a four-story Hilton hotel and sports bar north of the Woodland Mall in Grand Rapids.
Suburban Inns, which is based in Holland, plans to erect a 144-room Hilton Garden Inn at 2321 Beltline Ave. SE and a 220-seat Big E’s sports bar next door during the summer of 2016. An artist’s rendering is shown above.
The Grand Rapids Planning Commission approved the project Thursday.
Suburban Inns president Brian Beukema said excavation will get under way soon at the site.
“This project is a very exciting new growth for our family and our team members,” said Beukema. “We all look forward to enjoying continued successful growth in the state of Michigan and the beautiful city of Grand Rapids.”
“This brand is highly sought after by business travelers and loyal Hilton Honors members,” said Suburban Inns chief operating officer Peter Beukema. “It fills a need in that area by bringing a hotel and restaurant to a vacant site close to Ford Airport. We have owned this site for a number of years and have been busy with other projects, but now is the right time to get moving on this exciting project.”
“Suburban Inns has been operating hotels and restaurants for over 35 years now,” said Brian Beukema. “We are West Michigan-based and approach hospitality completely differently than our competition. When we looked to this market and we saw our typical customers but our products and services were non-existent. That is why we chose this site and market.
“We pride ourselves on hospitality and delivering an experience, not just another hotel or restaurant visit,” he said. “People who know Suburban Inns hotels know this.”
