Police: Boy, 3, dies after gun accidentally discharges

BENTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A 3-and-a-half-year-old boy died Wednesday after a firearm was accidentally discharged at a Berrien County residence.

According to a press release from Benton Township Police, officers responded to a home in the 1600 block of Norton Street at about 1:18 a.m. and discovered the child.  He was pronounced dead at the scene from a gunshot wound.

“Initial indications are this was an accidental discharge of a firearm resulting in a fatality,” the release says.  Investigators say they found two firearms registered to one of the residents at the scene.

No other information on the incident has been released.   The investigation is ongoing.
