SANTA CRUZ, Cali. — Making their NBA D-League Showcase debut, the Grand Rapids Drive certainly put on a show.
Willie Reed had 14 points, 12 rebounds, and 7 blocks to lead the seventh-seeded Drive to a 102-87 upset win over the second-seeded Austin Spurs on Thursday in the first round of the Showcase Cup.
Reed was one of eight Drive players to score in double figures, led by Lorenzo Brown’s 16 points.
Gigi Datome scored 15 and Spencer Dinwiddie added 11 after arriving from Detroit on assignment from the Pistons.
Grand Rapids advances to the tournament semifinals to play the Bakersfield Jam on Saturday at 10:00 p.m. ET. The game will be televised on NBATV.
