ALLEGAN COUNTY, Mich. — A woman found dead Tuesday morning and police have labeled her husband as a person of interest in this now-called homicide.
That woman has been identified as Sara Lee Knight, 48.
At around 8 a.m. Tuesday, Allegan County Central Dispatch received a call saying Knight was dead in the 6200 block of 118th Avenue. The Allegan County Sheriff’s Department believes the call was made by the victim’s husband, Harold Knight, also known as “Butch.”
Deputies are now currently and actively on the lookout for Harold Knight. They believe he is driving his wife’s light green Subaru Forester with license plate GM74A.
Deputies also think Sara Knight was possibly already dead in the house for two to three days before they received the call about her death.
“Oftentimes, we’ll describe something as being very traumatic in nature, and obviously that wasn’t readily apparent in this case,” said Capt. Frank Baker of Allegan County Sheriff’s Department.
A neighbor who lives next door to the Knights said he knows them well, and he described Sara’s death as unbelievable. The couple moved to West Michigan from Maine last spring, and they were very nice people, he said. He doesn’t believe “Butch” would hurt Sara.
“It wouldn’t be uncommon for anything to occur and for the neighbors not to hear any type of ongoing problems that may be in the home, especially this time of year when you know the windows are shut, and you’re not necessarily able to hear what’s going on next door,” said Capt. Baker.
Neighbors said Harold Knight is retired and about 20 years older than his wife. According to neighbors, Sara Knight was a respiratory therapist.
Anyone with any information about Harold Knight’s whereabouts or who sees a green Subaru with license plate GM74A should contact Allegan County Sheriff’s Department by calling (269) 673-0500.
