Recording details deputy’s final moments; police still looking for SUV

INGHAM COUNTY, Mich. -- Radio traffic details a fatal high speed chase that occurred in Ingham County.

FOX 17 obtained the December 7th audio recording from the Michigan State Police. Investigators need the public's help locating the suspect's vehicle.

Michigan State Police later learned John Kelsey, 34, was the alleged driver. He's from Stockbridge.

That night, Ingham County deputy Grant Whitaker's cruiser left the road and hit a tree. The 25-year-old died from his injuries.

During the chase, Whitaker told dispatch the suspect's vehicle was going 80 miles per hour near Stockbridge. The deputy said he (himself) was traveling 100 miles an hour.

Kelsey drove a white 2003 GMC Denali. The vehicle is registered to a relative, and investigators haven't recovered it yet.
