ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Michigan State Spartans have won the Goodyear Cotton Bowl, in what can only be described as a thrilling last-minute victory.
The Spartans were down by 20 points in the fourth quarter, due to the potent offense of the Baylor Bears. But MSU would score 21 unanswered points with just over 12:00 to play in the game.
With State down by a touchdown in the closing minutes, Baylor was on its way to making it a two-score game with an attempted field goal. However, MSU blocked it, and returned the live ball into Baylor territory.
State made good use of the dramatic defensive play. A 10-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Connor Cook to wideout Keith Mumphery tied the game. The extra point was good, putting MSU up by one point.
Baylor's offense would not be able to answer in time.
Michigan State wins the Goodyear Cotton Bowl in dramatic fashion, 42 - 41.
