HOLLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A driver swerving to avoid a school bus snapped off a utility pole, sending it crashing down on another vehicle and shutting down the roadway Thursday afternoon.
At 4 p.m. Thursday, Michael McNeil, 37, of Holland Township was eastbound on Douglas Avenue when he came upon a vehicle stopped and waiting for a school bus dropping off children east of Division Avenue in Holland Township.
McNeil believed he couldn’t stop in time so he took evasive action, swerving and hitting a utility pole, which snapped off and brought wires down onto a vehicle driven by Sarah McLaughlin, 29, of Holland Township.
McLaughlin was trapped inside her vehicle until Consumers Energy arrived and disconnected the wires.
Douglas Avenue was closed for about 30 minutes.
Neither McNeil nor McLaughlin were hurt. Both were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.
The crash remains under investigation by the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.
