Report: Suspect charged in connection with Ingham Co. deputy death

KELSEY II, John CoryellINGHAM COUNTY, Mich. — A suspect has been arraigned on charges connected to the case of Ingham County Deputy Grant Whitaker.

According to FOX 47,John C. Kelsey II, 34, of Stockbridge was arraigned Monday on charges of first-degree fleeing and eluding causing death and operating a vehicle while suspended or revoked causing death.

Because of his criminal record, he could spend life in prison if convicted, FOX 47 reports.

Whitaker was killed Dec. 7 during a high-speed chase outside on Dexter Trail east of M-52.

Michigan State Police and the Ingham County Prosecutor’s Office are planning to hold a press conference at 2:30 p.m. Monday afternoon at Michigan State Police headquarters in Lansing with more details on the case.

Whitaker was chasing a suspect in a white SUV when his vehicle went off the road and hit a tree, killing him.

Police last week released dash camera photos from the pursuit, including a picture of the white SUV in question.

According to FOX 47, Kelsey’s bond was set at $1 million.
