HOLLAND, Mich. — A semi truck fire shut down a portion of westbound Interstate 196 just north of Holland on Monday night.

The semi caught fire shortly before 5 p.m. during the evening commute on westbound I-196 near the Adams Street exit.

The truck’s driver was not injured. A bystander saw the flames in the rear of the truck and signaled the driver to pull over. The driver was able to pull the truck over to the side of the insterstate before the flames spread.

Afterward there wasn’t much left of the truck, just a charred mess.

The fire chief told FOX 17 NEWS that there wasn’t anything in the cab.

The cause may be mechanical but is still under investigation.
