GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – A man is in custody after leading police on a chase and eventually hiding on a neighborhood rooftop early Sunday morning .
Officers were called to the 400 block of Grandville Ave. SW, after receiving reports of a large fight just before 4:00 a.m. They were told an armed man was inside a white vehicle at the scene.
A short pursuit of the vehicle ended near the intersection of Godfrey Avenue and Oxford Street, where the man crashed his vehicle into the side of a building. He then got out and began to run west on Oxford St. SW.
The foot chase ended when the suspect attempted to hide on the roof of a home nearby, on the 1000 block of Norwich Ave SW. Police said the suspect had no connection with the house or it’s residents. Streets in the neighborhood surround the home were shut down for a few hours while police attempted to persuade the suspect to come down off the roof.
The man was taken into custody just before 6:00AM Sunday after the suspect surrendered to police without incident.
Police say they are not looking for other suspects at this point in time.
