OTTAWA COUNTY, Mich. -- A Fruitport Township police officer was arrested after allegedly drunk driving with a 3-month-old infant in his car.

Timothy Michael Thompson, 36, was taken into custody on I-96 near 68th Avenue in Coopersville at about 4:30 a.m. Saturday, according to court documents.

The documents allege that his blood alcohol content was nearly twice the legal limit.

Fruitport Township Police Chief Ken Doctor says Thompson is no longer employed with the department.  He is scheduled to appear in 58th District Court in Hudsonville on Dec. 3 at 9 a.m.

If convicted, Thompson could face up to a $1,000 fine and anywhere from five days to one year in prison.

FOX 17 visited Thompson's home Wednesday seeking comment, but he did not answer the door.

No injuries were reported in the incident.
