Winter storm drops visibility, making travel difficult

WEST MICHIGAN — Our first Winter Storm of the season has moved through West Michigan bringing snow, gusty winds and falling temperatures creating a mess on area road ways.

Snow totals have not been excessive around West Michigan but the combination of blowing and drifting snow with temperatures in the teens and wind chills in the single digits have made for treacherous travel.

Expect snow to continue overnight as lake-effect snow will bring moderate to heavy snow in some areas. Gusty westerly winds will allow snow to continue to blow and drift, dropping visibility through Tuesday afternoon.

Temperatures will continue to fall overnight as actual temperatures drop into the teens, gusty winds will plummet feel-like temperatures into the single digits, if not below zero. These bitterly cold temperatures will also hinder road crews in treating snowy surfaces making for a tricky morning commute Tuesday.

Stay tuned to FOX17 as this system is sure to bring some closings and delays. Meteorologist Jon Shaner will be tracking the snow starting at 5 a.m.
