Terrell’s near-perfect day vs. EMU earns MAC honor

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — With 1:27 left in the first quarter Saturday, Zach Terrell already had himself one heck of a game – and the Mid-American Conference is taking notice for the entire body of work.

Western Michigan’s sophomore quarterback was 7-for-7 for 231 yards and three touchdowns by the end of the first quarter — on his way to a 17-for-19, 357-yard, four-touchdown day in a 51-7 win over Eastern Michigan — earning him MAC West Offensive Player of the Week honors on Monday.

Terrell also rushed for a score in the win.

ESPN Stats and Info calculated Terrell’s QBR for the game at 99.94 — the second-highest in college football over the last decade. Only current Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck (99.96 vs. Cal in 2010) has had a higher QBR in that stretch.

The Fort Wayne, Indiana native is completing 69.7% of his throws this season, best in the MAC and fifth-highest in the FBS. He finished last season completing just 53% of his passes. Terrell has also thrown 19 touchdowns, compared to just six interceptions.

Terrell and Western Michigan (7-3, 5-1) head to Mount Pleasant on Saturday for their rivalry game with Central Michigan (7-4, 5-2). The game starts at 1:00 p.m. and will be streamed online on ESPN3.
