BYRON CENTER, MICH.--West Michigan got its first show of snow over the past couple days and we expect that to create the usual issues: slippery roads and sidewalks and car accidents.

But there's another problem the snow has created: football teams all over West Michigan are scrambling to get their fields ready for playoff games Friday and Saturday.

"I think it happens quite often probably up North, and maybe out in New England and out West, maybe in the mountain area," said South Christian athletic director Curt Copeland.

More than 30 parents, teachers and coaches cleared the snow from Byron Center where South Christian will play Friday night. It took that team about two hours to get rid of the white stuff.

"Misery loves company," Copeland said.

"Gather the shovels, bring the kids and build the excitement," said football parent Joni Misselink.

Copeland says the players and coaches will have hand warmers. There will also be heaters on the sidelines.
