GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Lake-effect snow showers will gradually diminish Friday and Friday night, but West Michigan will only get a brief break before more snow arrives Saturday night.
A cold front will slide through the Great Lakes Saturday night and Sunday, bringing some widespread snow to the region. This snow will likely amount to no more than one to three inches.
In many parts of West Michigan, that’s all you will wake up to Sunday morning. But in locations mostly west and northwest of Grand Rapids, we’ll see Lake Michigan get into the act, with southwest winds enhancing the snow with the cold front and allowing more snow to fall as the front moves out of the area.
This means that much of Ottawa, Muskegon, Newaygo, and Oceana counties in the FOX 17 viewing area will get several more inches of snow before it winds down. Parts of Allegan, Kent, and Mecosta counties will also likely see some heavier snow at times.
This snow will make travel challenging along parts of I-96, U.S. 31, and U.S. 131 especially Sunday morning. Be sure to check out interactive radar and the updated forecast on the Weather page.
Keep in mind that with 36 hours before the cold front arrives, this snowfall forecast is preliminary and subject to change as new information becomes available.
