KENT COUNTY, Mich. — An 18-year-old Kentwood woman died Thursday after being struck by an SUV while trying to cross 44th Street near Breton Avenue.

According to Grand Rapids Police, the woman walked in front of a Rapid Bus Wednesday afternoon and was struck by an SUV in an adjoining westbound lane.

“She was trying to cut across 44th Street to catch the bus coming in the opposite direction, and the car did not see her and hit her,” Trina Davis, who works at the nearby Admiral Discount Tobacco, told FOX 17.

In 2013, Michigan Auto Lawranked the intersection as the seventh most dangerous in the Grand Rapids area, with a total of 44 crashes.

The teen’s name has not been released.
