Amtrak train, semi collide in Zeeland

Posted

ZEELAND, Mich. — A semi truck stopped on train tracks in Thursday morning was hit by an oncoming passenger train.

It happened around 9:00 a.m. at the intersection of Chicago Drive and 80th Avenue.

The semi had slowed and stopped on the tracks, then the crossing gates came down and the train made impact with the rear portion of the semi trailer.

A local man and his wife who were on the train commented on FOX 17’s Facebook post that it felt like the train had hit a building.

Amtrak was sending another “cab car” to the location to take passengers of the first train and get them on their way safely.

The truck was hauling office supplies when the accident happened. No one was injured in this accident.
