SCHOOLCRAFT TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A 59-year-old woman from Constantine died Thursday after a crash on U.S. 131 south of Schoolcraft.

According to Michigan State Police, the crash started at about 7 a.m. when a southbound Ford F-150 swerved to avoid a Jeep Cherokee that started to slide because of slippery road conditions.

The driver of the truck struck signs in the median, lost control and went into the northbound lanes, hitting a Saturn Aura head on.

The Saturn was then hit by a northbound tanker truck.   The driver of the Saturn, Deborah Mead, had to be extricated from the vehicle and later died at the hospital, according to a release.

People in the Ford truck were treated by medical personnel at the scene.
