Enhancing community with ribbon cutting in GR’s Madison Square Neighborhood

Posted

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.– The ribbon has been cut to welcome residents into the newest phase of Southtown Square Development. That’s located on Hall Street on Grand Rapids’ Madison Square neighborhood.

The $13 million is on the site of the former TJ’s Appliance.

The four-story complex features 24 affordable, energy-efficient apartments and 6,000 square feet of commercial space. It’s LINC Community Revitalization Incorporated‘s latest project.

“I love it,” said Dominique Arnett. “It’s my first apartment so I love it. I’m excited.”

LINC has been working for more than a decade to breathe new life into neighborhoods, especially this one.

“For us, it’s really, once again, building the strength of the neighborhood and make sure we are always working in concert with the neighborhood,” explained Darel Ross, co-executive director of LINC.

For residents like Arnett, it’s a renewed sense of pride.

“I see the city growing. I see buildings being built, apartments for low-income parents who have children who can’t pay a certain amount of rent. It’s nice for parents who have children to help us out.”

LINC says there is more to be done, and will continue working with residents on just exactly what the next step should be.
