KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Western Michigan Broncos are 6.5-point favorites to beat Miami (OH) this weekend and become bowl-eligible.
P.J. Fleck and his team aren't thinking about it.
The Broncos (5-3, 3-1 MAC) were given a speech Tuesday morning -- and Fleck repeated the sentiments to the media later in the afternoon.
"'If you're here just to go to a bowl game - and that satisfies you - you are in the wrong room,'" he says he told his players. "'So please leave.' "
"We're here to win championships," he told the media Tuesday. "We're not here just to go to bowl games."
Western Michigan is 0-5 in bowl games in the 108-year existence of the program.
The focus continues to be on winning the team's first Mid-American Conference title since 1988.
"We wanna be worst-to-first," sophomore quarterback Zach Terrell said Tuesday. "We were worst last season; we wanna be first this season - and by doing that, we gotta win a MAC championship. And that's still in play."
WMU travels to Miami (2-7, 2-3 MAC) for a 2:30 p.m. kickoff Saturday.
