GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A teenager died in a Grand Rapids hospital Sunday afternoon following injuries he sustained in an Aug. 28 crash in Whitehall.

Colton Wood, 16, was one of four passengers in a vehicle driven by 18-year-old Jordyn Garza.

Officials say Garza crashed the car into a utility pole near Division Street and Mears Avenue.  Speed was believed to be the main factor in the crash.

Garza’s cousin, 15-year-old Makaila Steve-Knapp, died at the scene.  Wood had been in critical condition since the crash and died Oct. 19, according to Whitehall Police.

Garza and the other two people in the car did not sustain serious injuries.  He was charged Aug. 29 with reckless driving causing death and reckless driving causing impairment.

Whitehall Police say he may face additional charges following Wood’s death.
