Police catch suspect in Kalamazoo arson, assault

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Adam Shigwadja, 18, has been captured, according to Kalamazoo Public Safety.

Shigwadja was wanted for felonious assault. He’s accused of breaking into his girlfriend’s home, assaulting her, and setting her bedroom on fire on Monday night.

Police said her brother fought Shigwadja off, and the suspect escaped through the second story window.

Investigators said  Shigwadja was located by police around 7:30 p.m. on Stadium Drive near Howard Street.

Police said he was “apprehended without incident.”

The victim is in serious condition, according to Captain Victor Ledbetter.
