Sexual assault suspect taken off life support

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.- A woman who was scheduled to have a preliminary exam this coming week on criminal sexual conduct charges has been taken off life support after going into cardiac arrest.

A source tells FOX 17 that Kathy Eastman went into cardiac arrest while being lodged at the Kent County Correctional Facility. She also suffered a brain aneurysm.

On Sunday, a relative told MLive that she was taken off life support at Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital.

Kathy Eastman and her husband Jerry Eastman have been charged with 1st degree criminal sexual assault, after a 13-year-old relative claimed the couple had sexually assaulted him for years.  The alleged abuse started when he was just four or five years old.

The victim told police that the couple would invite him into their bedroom, where he was allegedly molested.

Other relatives have also come forward with allegations of abuse.

Kathy Eastman was scheduled for a preliminary exam on September 11th.
