PORTAGE, Mich. — Police in Portage are searching for a speeding driver who ran away after he was involved in a rollover crash.
Shortly after 2:00 a.m. on Friday, a police officer was patrolling on Kilgore near Portage road. The driver of a burgundy Ford Taurus noticed the patrol car, and suddenly sped off at a high rate of speed. The officer opted not to give chase due to the high speeds.
Less than ten minutes later, someone called to report a rollover accident on the ramp from westbound I-94 to northbound U.S. 131. The same police officer responded, and sure enough, it was the same burgundy Taurus that had wrecked. The driver was nowhere to be found.
K-9 tracks were unsuccessful, and the only description police have to go on right now is that the driver was a white male.
