GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (July 9, 2014) — Police have arrested a suspect in a recent shooting in downtown Grand Rapids that left two teenagers injured.
You may remember the incident on Ionia Avenue, which police say could have been the result of an earlier altercation that had occurred in the area. On June 18, officers responded to reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they found two victims — a 16-year-old and 17-year-old — who both suffered single gunshot wounds. One is still recovering in the hospital.
After interviewing many witnesses and working closely with the victims to develop leads, detectives developed a suspect that they identified as Rodney Scot Armstrong, Jr. He was arrested on Tuesday, when he appeared in court on an unrelated charge of Failure to Register as a Sex Offender.
With regards to the Ionia Avenue shooting, Armstrong has been charged with two counts of Assault with Intent to Murder, Felony Firearm, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and being a Habitual Offender-Fourth Offense.
Armstrong is set to be arraigned on those charges on Wednesday.
