KALAMAZOO, Mich (June 29, 2014) – Officers with the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety are asking witnesses to come forward with information after a teenager was shot in the Edison Neighborhood this afternoon.

Officers responded to reports of gunfire near the intersection of Race and Hays Park shortly before 3:00 p.m.  Officers made contact with a 16-year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper shoulder.  He was reluctant to reveal any information about what happened according to police, saying he had no idea who may have shot him.

Detectives say the teenager was transported to a local hospital where he was treated and released for his injuries from a single bullet wound.

Investigators say the teenage victim has a long history of criminal activity, including more than 30 incidents that involved response from area law enforcement.  Investigators also say he has a documented past of being affiliated with a gang.

The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety is asking anyone who may have information on what led up to this shooting to call them at 269-337-8994 or Silent Observer at 269-343-2100.
