KALAMAZOO, Mich. (June 25, 2014) — A teenager has been arrested after leading police on a chase in a stolen car and having a loaded handgun with him.

Police got a tip about the stolen car at 2:03 a.m. and minutes later, saw it on Stadium Drive and Howard Street. When they tried to stop the driver, he drove off onto Howard. Police say he lost control of the vehicle and hit the curb, but kept driving, headed west on Stadium.

The suspect, 16, crashed again near Rambling Road, and hit cars parked at the Express Auto, causing the car to rollover. Police say the teenager also had a loaded handgun with him. He was arrested on charges of unlawfully driving away an automobile, freeing and eluding, and carrying a concealed weapon. The suspect also had an outstanding warrant.

He was taken to an area hospital for minor injuries from the crash and then went to the Kalamazoo County Juvenile Home.
