GRANDVILLE, Mich. (June 21, 2014) – A  man is in custody in connection with the assault and robbery of a woman.

Shawn Jarrett was arrested Friday night. He is being held in the Kent County Jail, expected to face a judge on Monday.

This is not the first time Shawn Jarrett has done this, Jim Epstein, former Mercer County PA District Attorney tells FOX 17 that Jarrett served 30 years in a Pennsylvania prison for rape and murder of his neighbor back in 1982. Also in 1982, Jarrett was convicted of aggravated assault against another person. Jarrett was released from prison back in December of 2012.

The 50-year-old is expected to be charged with first-degree home invasion and first-degree criminal sexual conduct.

Grandville Police responded to a call Thursday at around 11 a.m. on Prairie St. SW. The victim, an elderly woman, told authorities that a black male in his twenties knocked at her back door, convincing her that he could come into her home. According to the victim, the suspect then entered her house, assaulted her, took an unknown amount of cash, and took off on a bike.
