Fleeing Suspects Caught As Leonard & Lafayette Are Blocked

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Several people were taken into custody after a heavy police presence shut down the intersection of Leonard Street NE and Lafayette Avenue SE on Tuesday evening.

At 9:20 p.m. Tuesday, several people ran from Grand Rapids police officers during a traffic stop. Other officers were called to the area and both eastbound and westbound Leonard plus both northbound and southbound Lafayette all were blocked off to traffic as numerous squad cars arrived on the scene to assist in searching for those who fled.

Grand Rapids police told FOX 17 NEWS that at least two people were taken into custody. A gun also was found on the ground during the search, which included a canine unit.

The two roadways were reopened to traffic shortly after 10 p.m. Tuesday.
