OAKFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (June 8, 2014) — A man from Grand Rapids who died after drowning in a lake is identified as Charles Cooley, that’s according to the Kent County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies said Charles was with his wife in a small row boat when he moved from where he was sitting, causing the boat to tip over.
It happened around 11 A.M. Saturday on Chain Lake, near Morgan Lake in Oakfield Township.
Emergency crews tried to revive the victim, but those attempts were unsuccessful.
Charles’ wife was able to swim to safety.
