DETROIT, Mich. (June 4, 2014) — The reigning AHL Coach of the Year will be staying in Grand Rapids for the near future.

The Detroit Red Wings announced Wednesday afternoon that they have signed Grand Rapids Griffins head coach Jeff Blashill to a new three-year contract, keeping the Ferris State alum with the Griffins through the 2016-2017 season.

Blashill led Grand Rapids to the Calder Cup during the 2012-2013 season – his first as a head coach at the professional level. He followed that up with a run to the Western Conference Semifinals this past season.
