The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety said that 15-year-old Victor Garay was taken into custody in the early morning hours on Thursday.
Garay was formally charged on Thursday morning with open murder and a felony charge for possessing a firearm.
On Monday, 13-year-old Michael Day was shot just after 7 p.m. near the intersection of Lay Blvd. and Race St.
Day was transported to Bronson Hospital where he died of the gunshot wound to the torso.
Investigators said that they still haven’t determined whether to charge Garay as an adult.
As of Tuesday, a person of interest in the case was being held in custody on unrelated charges. It’s still unclear if any more people will be charged in the fatal shooting.
