GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (May 26, 2014) —The death of a man inside a home in Grand Rapids’ Heritage Hill neighborhood was ruled a homicide Tuesday following an autopsy of the body.

The victim was found by a neighbor at a home in the 300 block of Washington Street SE near Prospect Avenue Monday.

“When officers arrived they found the victim, Glenn Converse, age 63 years, unconscious and unresponsive. AMR responded to the scene. The victim was declared deceased at the scene. Mr. Converse was under Hospice care however the circumstances surrounding his death were suspicious,” said a news release by the Grand Rapids Police Department.

Lt. Patrick Merrill says Converse had lung and kidney cancer and was only given a few months to live. Police are not releasing how Converse died, Merrill says they are still conducting interviews.

He says they believe Converse had been dead two to three days before being found by friends. He says the door to his apartment was ajar but neighbors didn’t think anything of it.

Some people we spoke with who live in the same building as Converse say he was a nice guy who even despite being sick would shovel the sidewalk during the winter.

The Grand Rapids Police Department’s Major Case Team is investigating. If you have any information, you’re being asked to call GRPD at 616-456-3604 or Silent Observer at 616-774-2345 or 616-774-2345.
