HOLLAND, Mich (May 26, 2014) – A fire marshal is working to determine what caused a fire that severely damaged a home in Holland on Memorial Day.

Crews arrived to the home in the 200 block of Dartmouth Avenue around 3:45 p.m. to flames pouring out.  Right now, firefighters believe it may have started in the garage, which is a total loss.  Captain Chris Tinney with the Holland Department of Public Safety says there’s also significant damage along the ceiling and roof areas throughout the home.

No one was home at the time of the fire, and the homeowners have been notified of what happened.  Captain Tinney tells FOX17 they were able to get the flames under control in about 20 minutes, allowing some of the personal belongings inside to be preserved.

No injuries were reported.

A nearby home also suffered minor damage, including broken windows, most likely from heat coming from the fire.
