BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (May 21, 2014) — A Battle Creek Police Officer was hospitalized Wednesday after being assaulted by a break-in suspect.
According to a release, the incident started in the area of W. Michigan Avenue and Custer Driver. The suspect was allegedly trying to break into the Overflow church.
When the officer arrived on scene, the suspect fled. They were detained in the back yard of a home on Coldwater Street, but broke free and took off.
The officer caught up with the suspect again, and was assaulted and injured trying to detain him. They were able to hold onto the suspect until other officers arrived on the scene.
The officer was taken to the hospital to be treated for their injuries. The suspect will be charged with assaulting an officer and resisting arrest.
