HOPKINS, Mich. (May 19, 2014) — Two people managed to escape an overnight fire in Allegan County, but their two dogs were killed in the blaze.

The homeowners made the call shortly after 12:30 a.m. for the fire, which was on 126th Avenue, and when crews arrived, the flames were already spreading.

Firefighters tell FOX 17 the home was destroyed, but aside from the pets, no one else was injured.  It is believed that a candle started the fire.
