DETROIT, Mich. (May 14, 2014) — The days of rumors have been proven true.
The Detroit Pistons officially announced the hiring of Stan Van Gundy as their head coach and president of basketball operations on Wednesday morning.
Van Gundy has a 371-208 record in seven-plus seasons as an NBA head coach with the Orlando Magic and Miami Heat. His teams have made the playoffs seven times – including the Magic’s 2009 trip to the NBA Finals. His .641 winning percentage is sixth-highest in NBA history among coaches with more than 500 games.
Before coming to the NBA with the Heat as an assistant coach in 1995, Van Gundy spent eight years coaching in college, including head coaching jobs at Wisconsin, and UMass-Lowell.
Van Gundy will be formally introduced by the Pistons at a press conference on Thursday.
