Saranac Schools Staff Member on Leave During Investigation

Posted

SARANAC, Mich. (May 13, 2014) — A Saranac Community Schools staff member has been placed on leave after allegations of inappropriate relationships with former students

According to a May 13 letter from Superintendent Maury Geiger, the alleged relationships happened over a decade ago.

“Because of the extended timeline of the alleged actions, we are being very cautious in our investigation and are working in full cooperation with the (Ionia County) Sheriff’s Department,” the letter says.

The  staff member has been placed on paid non-disciplinary administrative leave as a precautionary measure while an investigation is conducted.

This is the third incident involving allegations against a Saranac teacher since November 2013.

In the November incident, the district reported that a high school teacher was under investigation after reports of an inappropriate relationship.   Those charges were eventually dropped.

The second investigation, which came to light in March, involved unspecified allegations against a male teacher.

Anyone with information that may be helpful in the investigation is asked to contact the Ionia County Sheriff’s Detective Office at 616-527-5363 or the Superintendent’s office at 616-642-1400.
