NEWAYGO COUNTY, Mich. (May 8, 2014) — The family of a Newaygo County stabbing victim tells FOX 17 that they were notified that his girlfriend has been arrested for second-degree murder.
Charles Rainey, 28, was found dead Monday evening in a home in Ensley Township. He had a stab wound to his chest and died at the scene.
His girlfriend, Tricia Hill, told police and FOX 17 that she stabbed him out of self defense.
Rainey’s sisters said he was the one who was abused in the relationship, and that he complained about Hill’s violent outbursts.
Newaygo County Sheriff’s Department announced the arrest of a 26-year-old woman for second-degree murder Thursday, and Rainey’s family identified the woman as Hill.
She is currently in the Newaygo County Jail, and sheriff’s officials say she is expected to be arraigned Monday.
“The biggest factor really that it’s going to come down to at the time that the stabbing took place: was this person acting in self-defense? Were they acting out of anger? And was there an opportunity for them to do something besides that,” Detective Sgt. Adam Mercer with Newaygo County Sheriff’s Department told FOX 17.
