Griffins Win Series Vs. Heat With Second Period Surge

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (May 2, 2014) — Step 1 of #DefendTheCup is complete.

Jeff Hoggan scored twice in a three-goal second period for the reigning Calder Cup champs and Petr Mrazek stopped 24 shots as the Grand Rapids Griffins got closer to hoisting back-to-back Cups with a 5-3 win over the Abbotsford Heat, winning the best-of-five conference quarterfinal series, three games to one.

Teemu Pulkkinen, Riley Sheahan, and Landon Ferraro also scored for Grand Rapids, who trailed 1-0 after the first period.

The Griffins are still waiting to see who they will play in the Western Conference semifinals. Game days and start times will be posted once available.
