WYOMING, Mich. (April 25, 2014) — Godfrey-Lee Public Schools announced that Lee Middle & High School would be closed on Friday due to illness.

We spoke with school officials, who said enough students and staff had fallen ill, that the decision was made to close for the day.  That decision came at about 7:40 a.m.

It is not clear what illness may have spread throughout the building, but those who are sick are described as having flu-like symptoms.  They posted the following on their Facebook page:

Update: It appears that a flu-like virus has spread through Lee Middle & High School leading to a substantial number of absences this morning, both staff and students. This led to the decision to close school today to allow the entire building to be disinfected. We realize the inconvenience this created for parents but the health of our students and staff is always a serious matter.

There will be a thorough cleaning at the school throughout the weekend.

The district will keep parents and students updated with posts on its Facebook page.
