YPSILANTI, Mich. (WJBK) – A metro Detroit city has set up hefty surveillance on a playground after someone has repeatedly left feces on the slides.

Ypsilanti park where poop perpetrator struck

Officials say the waste has been repeatedly left at Prospect Park in Ypsilanti over the last six months.

Police and other city employees have been making frequent stops by the park to keep an eye out for the person they’ve dubbed the “poopatrator” and “mystery pooper.” They say the person, or persons, always strikes at night.

“The only way we’re really going to catch this person is if we catch them with their pants down,” says Ypsilanti Councilman Brian Robbi. He says about a dozen cameras have been installed in the area.

He says the Department of Public Service is at the park daily to make sure the slides are clean, so he says the playground equipment is still safe to use.

The park is said to be used often, and sits near a school. The park has a basketball court, a skateboarding arena and a picnic area. It is located off North Prospect Road and East Cross Street.
Adams Outdoor Advertising in Ann Arbor has set up a billboard along I-94 near South Huron Street, exit 183, encouraging the public to turn in the mystery pooper.

The eye-catching billboard toggles through these various slogans:

Help us flush the pooper #YPSIPOOPER

Do your civic doody report the pooper. #YPSIPOOPER

Help us catch the poopetrator #YPSIPOOPER

Authorities say feces has been repeatedly left at Prospect Park over the last six months. They have since set up a patrol and security system.
