HOLLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. (April 2, 2014) — An Ottawa County business is closed after people began complaining that they were becoming sick.

According to an employee at the Wild Chef Restaurant Japanese Steakhouse Grill and Bar, 2863 West Shore Dr., Holland Township, the restaurant will be closed through at least Thursday.  The staff member said the restaurant is cleaning the building extensively and is working with the Ottawa County Health Department.

The Ottawa County Health Department told FOX 17 Wednesday it was contacted by numerous people who said they fell ill after eating at the establishment.  The department then contacted Wild Chef.  Restaurant managment voluntarily closed, said a health department official.  There is an active health department investigation underway.  Wild Chef will have to be re-inspected prior to it opening its doors again.

News that the restaurant was closed came on the same day the health department issued a statementwhich stated foodborne illnesses are on the rise in the county.  But the health department said the illnesses linked to Wild Chef were only a percentage of the cases.  Part of the health department’s investigation is to find out how many cases are linked to Wild Chef.

A check at recent restaurantinspection reportsshows the restaurant was in compliance when health officials last checked it in October 2013.
